Wendy Rogers, a member of the Arizona State Senate, introduced a bill that proposes to recognize bitcoin as a transactional currency or means of payment. According to the document, bitcoin can be used to pay debts, taxes and government fees, as well as other obligations. To receive approval, the bill must be considered and approved by the Arizona House of Representatives and the Senate. Note that the US Constitution does not allow individual states to create their own legal tender. Rogers also proposed adding the ability for the authorities of any district, city, town and school district of Arizona to pay salaries to employees in cryptocurrency. Another Rogers initiative involves the introduction of a ban by any state government agency on the use of digital currencies. It is also proposed to exclude bitcoin and altcoins from the base for calculating property tax. Rogers also proposed not to introduce taxes and fees for “the use of blockchain technology.” Rogers was named chairman of the Arizona Congressional Committee on Distributed Ledger Technology and Cryptocurrency Research last September. She promised to make Arizona a cryptocurrency-friendly territory.
